A lovely baby shower...

As we eagerly await the arrival of Baby Verdi - who is officially 4 days late - it seems like a good a time as any to catch up on some blog posts! (Mind you I still have four trips to document - Italy, Chile, Colorado, and Maine -  but those require quite a bit of concentration.) In the meantime, I'm excited to share the photos my mother-in-law Mindi (Photography by Verdi) took of my baby shower in late August. Thrown by my mother, Nancy, and two sisters, Patrice and Olivia, it was a lovely morning visiting with family and friends. The shower was held at Avino's Italian Table in Bellport on Long Island, with breakfast/brunch and cake served. And though my face throughout may look a bit stressed (lots of eyes and gift opening is overwhelming!) it was a great morning, and Jared and I were overwhelmed by the generosity of the people in our lives. We cannot wait to welcome our little one into such a kind and supportive family and community of friends. Some of my favorite photos are highlighted directly below, and all of the photos from the morning/afternoon are in gallery that follows that a bit further down. Enjoy!

2017: January to June

In the Atacama Desert, Chile.

In the Atacama Desert, Chile.

JANUARY: We celebrated the New Year in the middle of nowhere, San Pedro de Atacama, a small city in the Atacama Desert in Chile. We were midway through our trip to Chile, and it was fun to view some of the crazy New Years celebrations of the Chilean people.  I was on break from grad school until mid-January, but everything started back up just after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  My second student teaching placement was at P.S. 163 on the Upper West Side, and was happy to have just two graduate school classes for the final semester - woohoo!! Late in the month I met up with Katie, Ally and Jackie for a girls night, dinner and drinks downtown, and Jared caught-up with Greg over drinks one evening in January too.

FEBRUARY: We had an easy Valentine’s Day Dinner at Talde, here in Park Slope. I helped my mom, Grandma, Aunt Sheila, Olivia and Patrice celebrate Aunt Rita’s 90th Birthday with a small pizza and ice-cream party on Friday evening in Westbury. I was also able to visit my second grade class at P.S. 33 (from my Fall 2016 student teaching placement) which MADE. MY. DAY. Those little kids are still some of my favorite people.

MARCH: Jared kicked off the month on a photo expedition with Rich, to some crazy abandoned locations in…New Jersey, and came back with some unique photos. We spent a weekend on Long Island to celebrate Ashlyn’s baby shower for Baby Bruno one Sunday afternoon, where Jared and I both got to visit with lots of family and family-friends. We also had a chance to visit with Bob (over dinner) and then with both Bob and Katie for drinks that weekend too. The following week I attended Jared’s cousin Cassandra’s bridal shower with Ashlyn, which was a nice Sunday, midday event in Nassau. Woven in here someplace was a standard HFH program associate happy hour gathering (water for me!) at St. Dymphna, our go to dive-bar.

APRIL: Early in the month I met Karel and Helen for an early dinner one evening after school, and over April break I went to a Yankee game with all five of the Gillece's, where the Yanks celebrated a win. Jared and I hosted my dad and mom and Olivia, my Grandma, and Aunt Sheila, Uncle Jim, Sean and Tommy for Easter dinner. It was a bit snug, but everyone had a nice afternoon. We attended Jared’s cousin Cassandra’s wedding in Franklin Square, as well as the the reception, held at the lovely Westbury Manor. We had a great afternoon visiting with members of the Verdi family at-large. We also hosted a nice Sunday evening dinner with Jared’s and my parents before the month ended.

MAY: I went to a surprise brunch for Katie D.’s 30th birthday with Ally, Jackie and some other friends, at a cool and yummy restaurant, Miss Lily’s, on the Lower East Side/Alphabet City in early May. Ashlyn and Ben welcomed their little one mid-month and we were excited to meet him on Mother’s Day, and to visit with Mindi and Rich. We also had dinner with my parents, Patrice and Olivia to celebrate the holiday. I grabbed a quick lunch with a few former and current MSAHC staffers (Karel, Dean, Charlie) on Friday. I was also SUPER excited to wrap up student teaching and grad school classes by mid-May and celebrate graduation on 5/20, with Jared and my parents, and a late lunch at Dominick's on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. We spent a day over Memorial Day weekend on Long Island visiting with various Verdi's and Bruno's at a Memorial Day BBQ too.

JUNE: In June I was lucky enough to spend a week in Colorado with Katie D. and Katie W. on one last girls trip. We toured through Denver, part of the Rocky Mountains, and Bolder. It was a lot of fun, pictures and a full account to follow. We spent Father's Day at Aunt Winnie and Uncle Mickey's house visiting the the Anderson family at large. Mid-month we spent a Friday evening in Prospect Park for the New York Philharmonic's Concert In the Park and fireworks. We did our 20-week scan of Baby Verdi and everything checked out well, which was comforting, and we spent a few Saturdays at the beach between Robert Moses and Jones Beach. I also had an opportunity to visit with both my 2nd grade and 5th grade student teaching placements just before the school year ended, which I was thrilled about.
